Cross the Colorado River to the North Reach Trails
Three of America’s desert ecosystems – the Mohave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran Deserts – meet at the lower Colorado River. You can experience this rugged recreational paradise known as the North Reach Trails, and all you have to do is cross the river.
North Reach Trails
Cross the blue waters of the Colorado River to Laughlin for a back-to-nature adventure on nine miles of various trailheads devoted to hiking, biking, horseback riding, or just strolling along at a leisurely pace. You’ll see a surprising variety of plants and animals, some of which are seen nowhere else in the world. The desert isn’t so barren after all!
There are picnic tables and restrooms throughout the North Reach area. All the trails, except the equestrian trail, are accessible to wheelchairs including the Pyramid Canyon Day Use Area & Loop Trail. Fish from the piers, survey the scenery from the Davis Dam Overlook, and check out the inventive modern sculptures along the covered walkway.
Davis Dam Overlook
When you gaze out from the dizzying heights of the Davis Dam Overlook, you’ll be standing 200 feet above the floor of Pyramid Canyon and 140 feet above river level. Davis Dam holds back the waters of the Colorado River to form Lake Mohave. Seeing boaters and fishermen in the middle of the desert is an amazing sight.
