Laughlin Labyrinths
Known for its casinos and exciting nightlife, Laughlin is also home to a most unusual, and almost unknown, attraction –nine hand-built stone labyrinths created by local artist Wes Dufek. You can experience the Laughlin Labyrinths for yourself when you reserve your stay at Silver View RV Resort.
What is a Labyrinth?
For thousands of years, labyrinths have been used as aids to prayer or meditation in locations all over the world. Similar to a maze, but not so confusing, they are geometric lay-outs with a single continuous path which leads to the center, and as long as you keep going forward, you will get there eventually.
Mr Dufek began building the Laughlin Labyrinths in 2012 when he spotted a flat place in the desert and was immediately inspired to create. He carried all the buckets of rocks by hand and arranged them in various shapes. Some are concentric circles, one is triangular, and others are octagonal. The labyrinths measure 25 –50 feet in diameter. All offer a sort of transcendent peace of mind just by following the path.
Finding the Laughlin Labyrinths
The labyrinths can be found on the east side of Thomas Edison Drive, between Bruce Woodbury and Casino Drive, 1/4 mile from each intersection. Park in a safe spot off Thomas Edison and look for 3 yellow posts to guide youup the wash.
The public is invited to make use of the Laughlin Labyrinths. Be respectful of these creations and if you accidentally kick the stones, please reset them. Do not change anything and leave no trash. Walking the paths is known to focus the mind and develop a feeling of calmness and well-being. There is no charge to experience the labyrinths. Mr Dufek’s intricate designs are completely free.
