World’s Largest Desert Tortoise
Looking for something fun to do this afternoon or any afternoon? Take a little trip to the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce at 1251 Hwy 95 to see Poki, the World’s Largest Desert Tortoise. Little Poki weighs 2 tons – that’s 4000 pounds – and he’s right out front. If you visit Poki during the Christmas season, you might see him wearing an enormous Santa Claus hat.
Don’t be afraid. Even though he’s huge, Poki won’t hurt you. Desert Tortoises are vegetarians. And besides that, Poki is a sculpture with a realistic appearance and a gentle smile. Local resident Bill Hayes, who commissioned the sculpture, displayed him on his own property until he moved away. Then he gave Poki to Bullhead City for all to enjoy.
